Shahrukh Khan often credited to as the Shah Rukh Khan, is an Indian film actor, as well as film producer and host. He is commonly referred to as the King of Bollywood. Shahrukh Khan was born to a Indian Muslim parents of Pathan descent in New Delhi. According to Shahrukh Khan, his paternal grandfather was originally from Afghanistan. His mother, Lateef Fatima was the adopted daughter of Major General Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who had served as a General in the National Army of Subash Chandra Bose. Shahrukh Khan’s father had come to New Delhi from Peshawar before the partition of India, while his mother’s family came from Rawalpindi, British India. Khan has an elder sister named Shehnaz.
Shahrukh Khan did his schooling in St. Columba’s school where he was accomplished in drama, sports and academics. He also won an award Sword of Honour, an annual award given to the student who best represents the spirit of the school. Shahrukh Khan later attended the Hansraj College (1985-1988) and earned his Bachelors Degree in Economics (honors). Later he also earned a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia, he later opted out to make a glorified career in the Bollywood industry.
After the death of his parents, Shahrukh Khan shifted to Mumbai in the year 1991. In the same year, he married Gauri Chibber, a Hindu as per the Hindu ceremonies before any of his films released. From the wedlock, the couples were blessed with two children, son Aryan (1997) and daughter Suhana (2000). According to Shahrukh Khan, while he strongly believes in Islam, he also values his wife’s religion. At home, his children follow both the religions, with the Quran being situated next to Gita.
Shahrukh Khan got training in acting under celebrated Theatre Director Barry John at Delhi’s Theatre Action Group (TAG). Shahrukh made his acting debut in 1988 with television series, Fauji, playing the reole of Commando Abhimanyu Rai. Shahrukh Khan went on to appear in other television serials such as Circus (1989) which depicted the life of the circus performers. The same year, Shahrukh Khan had also played a minor role in the English language film, In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones, which was based on life at Delhi University and was written by Arundhati Roy.
Upon moving from New Delhi to Mumbai, Shahrukh Khan made his first debut in Bollywood movie in Deewana (1992). The movie became a box office hit and launched his career in Bollywood. His performance in this movie also won him the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. In the later years he was blessed with a number of hit movies among which some movies also earned him many wards.
Later in the year 2000, Shahrukh Khan entered into the field of production along with Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza and set up production team named Dreamz Unlimited and produced movies such as Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani (2000) and Asoka (2001), which were blockbuster failures. Later in the year 2003, he produced the third movie under the same banner named Chalte Chalte, which turned a blockbuster hit.
In 2004, Shahrukh Khan set up another production company named, Red Chillies Entertainment, which produced movies like Main Hoon Naa, which was a hit and other movies Kaal, Paheli which were poor in collection. Later his productiin company made a comeback with the production of the movie Om Shanti Om, which emerged as India’s highest grossing production ever up to that point. Its forthcoming releases are Don 2 and Ra One.

Apart from film production, the company has also a visual effects studio known as Red Chillies VFX. It has also ventured into television content production, with shows like, The First Ladies, Ghar Ki Baat Hai and Knights and Angels. Television advertisements are also produced by the company.
In 2008, Red Chillies Entertainment became the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the BCCI-backed IPL cricket competition.
